Preventative Maintenance of Fitness Equipment

Keeping exercise machines running at peak performance with minimal downtime is the goal of any successful fitness facility. With any type of exercise machine, preventative maintenance is the key to maximizing equipment lifespan and staying on top of potential safety or liability issues.

Maximize Your Investment

Preventative Maintenance (PM's) performed on a regular basis will keep your equipment working safely and efficiently and will also limit the frequency of repairs. The last thing a facility manager wants to deal with is a machine failure due to not catching a problem early. A bad situation can become worse should more than one machine be out of service during peak demand. Keep in mind, preventative maintenance does not eliminate the possibility of equipment breakdowns; but proper maintenance following equipment manufacturer guidelines will significantly reduce the frequency and severity of breakdowns. It is a common misconception that a piece of equipment under a manufacturers warranty does not need a preventative maintenance agreement. We offer a customized PM program designed for the specific needs of your facility.

Safety and Liability

Broken or malfunctioning equipment can be a hazard and present a liability and safety issue. Product breakdowns can be dangerous. Properly maintained equipment will have fewer breakdowns and potential safety issues can be addressed before there is a problem.

For example, most strength equipment utilizes nylon coated steel cables (or Kevlar belts); these items have a finite life span and are wear items. Worn cables or cables that have loosened can come off the pulley system, potentially resulting in serious injury from falling weights or moving parts. Worn cable attachments can also pose a safety issue. During a preventative maintenance, all wear items are inspected so these issues can be addressed before they pose a safety or liability risk.

OEM Specifications

Correctly maintaining your equipment requires more than just making sure it works and wiping down the outside of the machine. Having the knowledge behind the mechanical and electrical systems of your fitness equipment allows us to know what to look for. PM's are performed following the guidelines of the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). This is crucial because not all fitness equipment is created equal.

For example, proper maintenance on a treadmill varies greatly from one model to another. Some treadmills are self waxing while others require periodic lubrication. Not all treadmills use the same type of lubrication and some treadmill belt and deck systems should never be lubricated under any circumstances. Incorrectly lubricating a treadmill can ruin the machine. Manufacturers are not responsible for warranty claims on machines that are not maintained correctly nor do they cover damage due to incorrect maintenance.

Our technicians have been factory trained by major manufacturers, including LifeFitness, Nautilus, True Fitness and Cybex, to ensure proper care is given to your investment.

We keep you informed

Preventative Maintenance, as with any visit from us, is scheduled in advance, so you will not have to follow up to see when your next service is due or wonder if a technician has already been to your facility.

We will also provide you with complete maintenance and repair records on all your fitness equipment after each service. These records can assist you if a liability issue should arise. An estimate can be provided for recommended repairs which do not fall under the maintenance agreement.

We can be the eyes and ears for your fitness facility; letting you know what issues need to be addressed, when older machines are at the end of their lifespan and may not be cost effective to repair and non-issues, such as user errors.
